    The Roomba Standard Remote is a fairly basic, easy to use remote control for the iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaners. We use it with our iRobot 500 Series Roomba Vacuum-Cleaning Robot with On-Board Scheduling and have been very pleased with the ability to steer the vacuum directly to sites that need cleaning since the roomba is a bit random (but thorough) on its own. It can also be used to manually start or pause the cleaning cycle.
It would have been great if the remote was included with my model of the Roomba, and I think it is included with some of the high-end units, but it is good that one is available and that it is relatively inexpensive.

    It's great if you're lazy or handicapped! Of course you need the vacuum to go with it. But, don't let the Vac battery die while the vac is under the furniture. The remote won't help you any then. It also needs line of site to work. Again, if it's under furniture... well, I just reach down to the floor from my chair and point it in the general direction. That hasn't failed yet. Most people probably don't neeeeeed it. You may LIKE to have it though.
Remember: People thought that "TV remotes" were silly when they first came out too. Now people will walk further to find the remote for the tv than just walk too the tv. So I guess it depends on what you need or want.
